Tibetan plateau covering 1.23 million sq km is linked to the south by the 2500km long Himalayas and to the west by the Karakoram. With an average height of 4,000 meters above sea level, Tibet encompasses some of the world's highest mountains. Mt. Everest (8848m), the world’s highest peak rises abruptly on the Tibet – Nepal border. Four mountains exceed altitudes of 8,000 meters and thirty eight mountains exceed altitudes of 7,000 meters. The word Tibet came from the Sanskrit word Trivadra it means Buddha Dharma and Sangha. It's one of the unique and mysterious land of civilization unknown to the world. The Tibet Autonomous Region, perched on the southwest Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, is a southwestern frontier region in China. During 1949 and 1950 Tibet, an independent nation the size of Western Europe, was invaded by China. No land has so captured man’s imagination for its almost mystical aura then Tibet, which is the hidden kingdom in the heart of Asia, the roof of the world. Forbidden to outside world for centuries, this vast expense of land is awesomely beautiful and offers fantastic vistas mountains, plains, lake, people, and culture belonging to a lost world, far beyond the 20- century plane.  At an average altitude of 4,000 meters, Tibet is the world's largest and highest plateau known as the 'Roof of the World'. Tibet is a living Shangri-La paradise of the world. Tibetan culture is colorful and rich and heavily influenced by the religion of Tibet. It has long been a dazzling pearl in the treasure house of the world, inviting tourists to unveil its mysteries. The temperature of Tibet in summer hover above 30'C (high-80s F) and only to drop to a searing -23'C (-10'F) in midwinter.

The trek to Mt. Tise or Mt. Kailash has remained the most pious religious journey for Buddhists as well as Bons, Hindus and Jains for thousands of years. It is a journey that comprises of the most scenic and unique landscape on the face of the earth. In Nepal, the mountain is called as Kailash and Tibetans and Chinese call it Mt. Tise. Trekkers and tourists have been allowed to cross Nepal-Tibet borders only since 1993 following the mutual agreement between China and Nepal. Humla is still a restricted area where only organized groups are allowed.
